Burton’s Beetlejuice, his second major release from the studio after 1985’s Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, was an enormous success. The film told the story of the Maitlands the couple that have lost their way (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) and whose home is occupied by the youthful Deetz Family, as well as their outsider child Lydia. In search of a way to drive the Deetz out of the house and out of the house, the Maitlands turn towards “bio-exorcist” Beetlejuice for help only to face unintended consequences for saying the name three times. Beetlejuice earned $74 million in the USA on a budget of $15 million. It reignited Keaton’s fame and made Ryder a star.

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice

The success of Beetlejuice resulted in an animated series that ran on ABC from 1989 to 1991 and action characters from Kenner as well as video games, and the production of a Broadway stage musical in 2018. The film Beetlejuice film was never made despite the success of the movie. This is due to problems with scripting and scheduling. Ryder had expressed serious interest in a sequel for a long time believing that it could only be made with co-star Keaton as well as director Burton.

Winona Ryder and David Harbour receive $9.5M in wages in the Stranger Things final season

Ryder declared that the film was “an iconic one.” “The only way it could really ever be done is through Tim [Burton and Michael [Keaton”. I’m not really sure. This film conveys a message that appeals to everyone. It’s interesting. It could be a great thing if it occurred, provided it was the right situation. Gosh, you know you’re getting older when they’re making television shows, sequels or plays for things that you did.”

Brad Pitt’s Plan B production company confirmed in 2022 that Beetlejuice II was in the process of being created. While the inclusion of Ryder, Keaton and Burton is not officially announced, Catherine O’Hara has been confirmed to reprise her role as Lydia’s mom Delia. Jenna Ortega, star of Scream 6, is also in the running to play Lydia’s child. Recently, Burton and the actor were on the same team for the Wednesday spinoff Addams Family.
